From children's classes to juvenile centers

Subhadra was born in Jamaica. She began teaching yoga to children in 1997, and that work became Yoga Angels. Her classes for young learners use drums, music and play, and rely on peer teaching methods she refined as a mother of four.

Through Yoga Angels she has taught children's classes in schools in the Beverly Hills and Los Angeles Unified school districts, in youth programs in Kingston, Jamaica, and in communities in Africa. She began training yoga teachers in 2000.

In 2006 she returned to Jamaica. Between 2015 and 2018 she brought the Foundation's Wellness And Mindfulness program in three of the island's juvenile centers, as part of an Organization of American States youth project funded by USAID. When that funding ended, the Foundation kept the program going at Rio Cobre until 2020.

The need to improve life skills, particularly conflict resolution, decision making, critical thinking and future planning among communities and police is undisputed.
